Bipolar Disorder: Start with Engagement and Goals and Work from There
“Bipolar Disorder: From Diagnosis, Through Treatment and Into Recovery” provides both the basics of diagnosis and treatment, as well as in-depth exploration of co-occurring substance use disorders and how to structure treatment for a person with multiple comorbidity (psychiatric, substance abuse, medical, psychosocial). The program relies on established paradigms and diagnostic criteria and incorporates emerging approaches to working with complex individuals. Because the rate of suicide in bipolar disorder is high a module on suicide assessment is included in this training.
Specific focus will be paid to: complex diagnostic dilemmas, age and gender-specific topics. Where the lifetime prevalence of substance use disorders (SUDs) is between 50-70% in bipolar disorder, this workshop focuses on how to approach and effectively implement dual-diagnosis treatment.
